Tax Incentives for Home Owners


Dear Home Owners,

As a (former) accountant by trade, I love saving money both in my professional and personal lives. A client of mine today was inquiring about tax savings on various home improvements, and I didn’t have all the answers for him so I said I would make my best effort to find out what I could as his Realtor. 

Within the City of Tampa, there are a number of rebates available for various home improvements as found here: City of Tampa Residential Energy Savings. They actually have a pretty cool blog that you can read about ways to save, and have helpful tips such as an getting an Energy Audit. Check it out! Another useful website was This site lists some energy programs by government agencies, utilities and others for tax savings. 

As you go through your home improvement checklist this fall and walk through the various home improvement stores, pay attention to advertisements for tax incentives such as rebates and credits that can be applied to your 2013 tax return. Who doesn’t like to save money on their taxes, after all?
